Post Malaysia 14th General Election

GE 14 is finally over with all the excitements coming to an end. Throughout this period of time, I listen to numerous speeches by politicians of all walks during their campaign. It is nothing very surprising when veteran politicians like Datuk Seri Najib, Tun Mahathir, and all the experienced politicians to talk in front of the public without ails. However, I am stunned by our younger generations when they are on stage. Young and inexperienced, they are able to stand on stage and give talks with fluency. The intonation and articulation is far better than what I expect. The national school system has been in implementation since 1976 in West Malaysia and 1886 in East Malaysia.               Under the national education policy, I realize that children's command of English deteriorate tremendously with most of the students can't even speak a proper sentence. It goes the same whether it is a government-aided school and whether it is a government school. Malaysia is a multiracial country comprising of 3 major races, i.e. Malay, Chinese and Indian. Thanks to the government so far in allowing each ethnic to learn their mother tongue as a medium of instruction in the primary school and as a subject in their secondary schools. However, there is an impact on learning English Language when Malaysia enforced the learning of Bahasa Malaysia as the national language and as the medium of instruction. Throughout these years (1986 -2002) under the national curriculum, students are getting weaker in their usage of English because of the improper curriculum.
The political speeches given by our young politicians during their campaign during GE 14 is an eye-opener to me. It is stunning that all these young can speak English extremely well and even on stage they can deliver speeches full of useful contents. After I did some survey I come to know that these young people are mostly graduated from overseas countries. I realize that these people are very outspoken and I do think that the sort of education that they are given and the environment that they are in play important roles to groom them what they are today. However, our country also groomed outstanding students who can speak  very well. e.g. Syed Siddiq who is a graduate from International Islamic University Malaysia. He won the best speaker award at the Asian British Parliamentary debating Championship three times.
What I notice is that during the political campaign, Chinese, Indians and some Malays can speak very well in English whereas others can only deliver their speech in Malay. These young people can speak excellently in Malay too. People like Hannah Yeoh, Yeo Bee Yin, Teo Nie Ching, Syed Siddiq, Rafizi Ramli, to name a few. I am touched by Hannah Yeoh's speech. I am so astonished by her intonation, her content and her clear voice in delivering speeches straight to the point, not to beat around the bushes without any content. She walks her talk. From her experience as an assemblyman in Subang Jaya, her service to the fellow public is seen by everyone. That is the type of representative that people wants. Foe this election she left her confort zone to stand in a parliamentary seat contesting against a federal territory minister. Her aim in joining politics is to fight against corruption and to stop race-based politics. All of us can see her result of service and she is remembered by Subang Jaya people.  All the others who really have the heart tp serve people are all in the public mind. Thanks to these young group pf politicians.
The climax of election is over. The long waiting last night is worth as people see light at the other end of the tunnel.
