I remember four decades ago, when the Land Of Hornbill was still under British colony, we grew up in a diverse community with a mixture of culture in our neighborhood. There was no racial tension like what it is felt now in the country. I also remember that my neighbor was a Malay family who reared a lot of ducks for sale. My mum cannot speak Malay but we managed to stay as neighbors and my mum could even buy ducks from them through sign language. What a beautiful scenery it is! Since independence, initially the influence of the colonization still exists. That is the reason it took about ten years for the Federal Government to implement the National Education Policy, i.e. to change the medium of instruction in school from English to Malay.
